Crescendo

Crescendo, was an installation piece set up in the Annex Gallery, March 9th 2011. This piece works by having a user (painter/conductor) pick up a baton to conduct an interface of a black and white orchestra displayed on 3 flat screens. The orchestra will react to the movements of the user (conductor), both visually and sonically. As the guest (painter) waves his or her arm in the air, color strokes appear and create a digital painting onto a projected canvas, and the sound will change in volume and pan around.

I set up a guitar tuner to activate the lamp.  When I played the guitar’s strings, in tune, the bulb would turn on and would feed my plant with light. Making it's life dependent on the sound of the guitar.

I placed a photo sensor at the base of the guitar hole. Using the arduino, the sensor, an amp, and a program I made, when light was obstructed from the sensor the amp would produce a sine wave that varied in pitch dependent on the amount of light hitting it. So as I gave a performance, and my hand strummed across the strings and over the sensor, the sound of my guitar was also obstructed by the noise produced.
